Ring. BUZZZ. Beep. Ding. Someone wants to...needs to...speak with me.
Tethered to our devices. Conditioned like some Pavlovian dog. Jumping at every ring. Every beep. Every buzz. A rush of adrenaline because someone just emailed us. Texted us. Tweeted us. Liked us.
Unwittingly eating ourselves into some popularity contest. Where we notice how many times our phones go off. Compared to how many times our friends' phones go off.
No longer recognizing when we break eye contact with someone. Or interrupt a conversation to attend to our mobile posse.
Passively accepting the numerous times we are ignored during a conversation because someone else is nurturing their ego.
